Overview
In this lesson, the students will be taught the skill of summarizing through various activities. First, they will activate their prior knowledge by identifying what is happening in the pictures shown in the First, Then, Finally activity. Then, they will be made familiar with the skill of summarizing using either a video lesson or reading material. Once done, they will apply what they have learned by summarizing the text titled Pandora's Box. Afterwards, they will be divided into pairs for the peer critiquing activity wherein they will evaluate the works of their classmates using the Summarizing Checklist. Lastly, they will share what they have learned by completing the sentence prompt in the activity titled Simile Me.

Discovering New Territories!
The students will now be made familiar with the idea of summarizing. This may be done by choosing either of the two materials: video lesson or reading material. As the students watch the video or read the text, they are asked to jot down salient points by accomplishing the Cornell Notes Worksheet. Cornell Notes is one of the most efficient ways of summarizing obtained information. A copy of Cornell Notes worksheet is attached. Once the students are done, the teacher will process the newly obtained information.
Exploring Beyond the Stars!
The students will apply what they have learned by summarizing the text titled Pandora's Box using the SWBST Technique. They will first have to read the text and then, they will proceed to answering the worksheet.
Soaring to Greater Heights!
The students will now be divided into pairs as they proceed to the next activity wherein they will critique the work of their classmate based on the given summarizing checklist. Sharing of the outcome of peer critiquing will ensue.
Landing Back on Earth!
The students will share what they have learned by completing the sentence prompt in the Simile Me activity. They will have to complete the following sentence: "Summarizing is like _____ because _____." Then, the teacher will allow the students share their answers to the class.
