All Ages How do teachers combat hostility towards D&T as outdated?

As someone who was in secondary school from 2003- 2008 I can attest to the fact that D&T was not entirely useless. I do a fair share of DIY, and I think that people are generally uneducated in this department.

I'd say there should be a shift to more practical matters, but using sanders/vices/spanners etc was certainly a useful part of education. Food technology too was certainly a subject with practical benefits.

How do we combat this hostility to D&T as an 'outdated subject'
