Short Introduction

The "to be" is a verb used to describe something or someone. In English, it can be used to say different things according to the context. However, the most common use of the "to be" verb is to talk about names, age, feeling, nationalities, and professions, especially when talking in the present tense (Lingokids, 2020). Verbs are very important for they help English Language learners communicate about different events in their lives by combining words into sentences. In this activity, the learners will apply their understanding of basic subject-verb agreement by answering the Fun with Verbs activity with the help of sample sentences given by the teacher.

Steps:
  1. The teacher posts sample sentences that highlight the subject and the verb. (e.g. I am here. & You are here.)
  2. Then, the students will be asked to determine the part of speech of the highlighted words.
  3. Next, the teacher will elicit student responses about the function of each part of speech in a sentence.
  4. Once done, they will be introduced to the idea of "to be" verbs.
  5. Then, as part of the drills, the learners will proceed to answering the Fun with Verbs activity.
  6. They will color the correct set of subject and "to be " verb given.
