Do your local schools still teach kids how to write in cursive? Our schools don't and I was pretty shocked to find that there are middle school kids who actually can't read cursive writing and didn't even know what it was called. They referred to it as "that squiggly kind of writing". I have my kids practice it at home with special workbooks and they actually prefer it to printing at times.

That is so odd! I don't know of any schools that are not teaching cursive. Maybe you should talk to the board about this. If they are not being taught cursive writing then they are lacking in educating on hand written material. I know that our kids today are more reliant on digital writing, but we can't allow a loss to handwriting.

I write in cursive. It was taught when I was in gradeschool. It has become my usual writing style. I like how expressive it is. The curves and all. Though, it is not that practical in the real world now. It really depends on how people view it. Though I believe it is a good thing to keep.

They have shown in scientific studies that our brains actually function differently when writing by hand than typing. I often write cursive on paper when I am having trouble with a piece of writing, I will look at the problem differently and glean new solutions.

Cursive is simply the fastest way to write by hand. I think it is ridiculous to not teach it but unfortunately it is happening around the world.

A way around this might be to introduce penmanship as a part of the arts curriculum. I really dont know what else to do about it.

Cursive writing doesn't make sense anymore. When I was in grade school, they make it mandatory that we learn it. But guess what? when you grow old, do cursive really have a place in this modern society? I say, it is just wasting the time of the students when they can learn other subjects rather than spending time doing this cursive with no benefits or whatsoever in the future.

When I was in elementary writing in cursive is a practice. Teachers make sure that we know how to do it. Nowadays, the educational system has dwindle to an extent that we allow students to do what they want - which should not be in order to adjust to them. Cursive writing becomes archaic in the long run and is a forgotten cause.
