      Groups of 3 children

      One person places some ‘eggs’ in an egg box, e.g. 3.
      The second person writes the fraction, e.g. 3/6.
      The third person says whether there is another way of writing this fraction, e.g. Half the box has eggs.

      If the third person can find a different way of writing the fraction, they take an ‘egg’.

      All the players then write the equivalent fractions: 3/6 = 1/2.
      The other players should check whether there is another obvious equivalent fraction, and then remove the ‘eggs’ and play again, taking different roles.

      (Note that 1/6 and 5/6 have no obvious equivalent fraction; 2/6 = 1/3; 3/6 = 1/2; 4/6 = 2/3; and 6/6 = 1.)

      After a few goes with a 6-egg box, you can use a 12-egg box.
      Ask them to work together to find more than one equivalent fraction for some numbers of eggs in this box, e.g. 1/3 = 2/6 = 4/12.
      You should write all the equivalent fractions that you find.
